A new language is a new life
Olá a todos! Aqui é a Anita.
There is a quote I have always loved: “A new language is a new life.” And after more than 20 years of teaching, I can tell you that I truly believe it.
Learning a language, as I always say, changes how you see the world, how you connect with people and, even in some specific moments, how you see yourself.
I remember very clearly the moment that made me want to become a language teacher. I was about 10 years old, sitting in an English class, and I pronounced the word “tea” wrong. Everyone laughed and I felt so, but so embarrassed that, instead of giving up, I pushed myself to understand languages better.
Years later, I realized that many of my students feel something similar when they start learning Portuguese. They are afraid of making mistakes, of pronouncing words incorrectly, but the truth is that mistakes are the most important part of the journey.
Every new word you learn, every sentence you try to say, every small conversation you manage to have, all of that is progress. Little by little, a new language opens new doors, new friendships, new opportunities, new confidence.
So here is what I think: learning Portuguese is not just about learning a language, it’s about discovering a new version of yourself.
