A Special Portuguese Language Day in Vilamoura

A little while ago, I had the opportunity to celebrate the Day of Língua Portuguesa together with the members of The ELS Club Vilamoura, where we spent an afternoon practicing Portuguese in a relaxed and fun environment.

We had beginners, curious learners, lots of laughs, and even a small quiz! We practiced golf-related vocabulary, such as renting a golf cart or ordering at the bar, and tried to connect everything to real-life communication. 

Honestly, that’s my favorite way of teaching! Grammar and perfect sentences are important to understand, but helping people feel comfortable enough to actually use the language, even in small situations, is the way of realizing you are learning the language in the correct way.

One of the nicest parts of the event was seeing people who had never spoken Portuguese before trying their first sentences and getting to know each other through the language. Little by little, the room became more relaxed and confident.

Sometimes we forget that language learning also creates community.

And for me, that’s always the most meaningful part 🧡
